Self-service for taxpayers

A public portal taxpayers actually find easy — and that your security team trusts.

Property owners register, apply for relief through a guided wizard, upload documents, and track every request — all from a branded, accessible site. Behind it sits an architecture with no database on the internet, so the convenience taxpayers want doesn't become the exposure your IT team fears.

What owners can do

Apply, upload, track, and renew — in one guided place.

The portal walks taxpayers through each step in plain language, so applications arrive complete and correct, and applicants always know where they stand.

  • Register & sign in — secure accounts so owners can return to in-progress and past applications.
  • Guided application wizard — apply for exemptions and relief through a step-by-step flow that only asks for what each program needs.
  • Document upload, read on the way in — files are read by AI at upload, so missing or unreadable documents are flagged immediately.
  • Tracking number & status — every submission gets a reference and a clear, live status the applicant can check anytime.
  • Respond to requests — when staff need more information, owners answer right in the portal rather than over phone tag.
  • Renew via secure link — recurring benefits renew through a one-time secure link, no password recovery required.

Security architecture

No database on the internet.

The most important sentence on this page is also the simplest. The public-facing site holds no database and no messaging credentials — it talks only to a gateway. There is nothing on the internet for an attacker to reach.

  • No credentials at the edge — the public site cannot connect to a database or messaging system directly, because it never holds those credentials.
  • Gateway-mediated only — every request passes through a gateway that brokers access to the back office, keeping sensitive systems off the public network.
  • Short-lived secure links for documents — uploads are stored and retrieved through expiring links rather than persistent public endpoints.
  • Replies screened for safety — applicant messages are screened before they reach staff or downstream systems.
  • Per-user access enforced — owners see only their own cases and documents, enforced at every request.

For IT and security buyers, this is a deliberately strong posture: the convenience taxpayers expect, without putting a database where the public can touch it. See the full picture on Security & trust.

Configurable & branded

Your forms, your programs, your identity.

The portal isn't a generic web form bolted on top of your office — it's a front end for the same configuration that drives the back office.

🧩

Forms as configuration

Application forms and the programs behind them are configuration — driven by the same program editor your staff use in the back office. Change a program once, and the portal updates with it.

🎨

Branded per jurisdiction

Agency identity, colors, and logo are applied per jurisdiction, so the portal looks and feels like your county's own site — not a third-party vendor's.

🔧

No code to change a program

Adding a new relief program or adjusting an existing one is an administrative task, not a development project. The portal reflects it automatically.

Connected to the back office

A submission becomes a case — automatically.

There's no re-keying and no shared inbox. When a taxpayer submits an application, it flows directly into the Exemptions module and creates a case, so applicant and staff are looking at the same record from the start.

  • Automatic case creation — submissions arrive in the Exemptions module as structured cases, ready for review.
  • Documents already read — files uploaded in the portal are classified and extracted on the way in, so review starts ahead.
  • Two-way status — staff decisions update the applicant's portal status, and applicants' responses flow back to the case.
  • One source of truth — applicant and staff stay in sync because they share the same underlying record.

Accessibility & trust

Built so every taxpayer can use it — and understand it.

A public-facing government service has to work for everyone. The portal is designed toward recognized accessibility standards and built around clear, honest communication.

WCAG 2.1 AA, in progress

Built on accessible component frameworks with keyboard navigation, screen-reader labelling and managed contrast in place today. Formal WCAG 2.1 AA verification and a published VPAT are underway — see compliance status.

📍

Clear status visibility

Applicants always know what stage their request is in and what, if anything, they need to do next — no guessing, no phone calls.

💬

Plain-language guidance

Each step is explained in plain language, reducing errors and the volume of support requests your office has to field.

Give taxpayers an easy door — and your security team peace of mind.
